The Edmonton Scottish Society was instituted in 1937 and incorporated in 1949 as an outgrowth from the amalgamation of two organizations created by Scottish people in the area. The first organization was founded in 1870 and the other in 1904. In 1967 the society acquired the land at Ellerslie to provide a permanent home for the members to host their many functions. Over the years the Edmonton Scottish Society has continued to develop and expand its cultural and sports programs for its members and the Edmonton community at large.

At present, the Edmonton Scottish Society has one major building with two halls and a sports pavilion that are utilized for various functions. Weddings, meetings, dinners and dances, and sporting events are held at the site. The various facilities can handle events from 65 to 300 people in one of the three venues. As well there are presently four “national” size soccer fields that are used extensively during the outdoor season. People of all ages from the Edmonton area and beyond use these facilities on the twenty acre complex just south of Ellerslie Road.

Due to growing public demand, it is now necessary to expand the sports facilities at the Society’s Ellerslie location. In order to facilitate this project, the Society is presenting an opportunity for businesses and individuals to sponsor the Society in completing this endeavour or project.

Phase 1 (of this 3 part expansion) has already been completed with the four soccer fields and the sports pavilion. Phase 2 was completed in 2005 with the addition of two more “regulation” size soccer fields and additional parking facilities. With the excellent facilities already in place and the proposed additions/expansion, the ESS will be able host to many more tournaments and events.

DID YOU KNOW that approximately 75,000 people will use the ESS site this year, either as a spectator or participant in one of the many events held at our facilities. From Rabbie Burns Day, to weddings and dances, the Highland Gathering, soccer and other events, the ESS is a very busy facility.

The ESS is also home to the “9-Time” Canadian Championship Women’s Soccer team, the Angels. The Angels are one of the ESS sanctioned teams. In addition, the Edmonton Major Men’s Soccer team (another ESS sanctioned team) is currently ranked 11th in Canada.
